PRESS RELEASE
AN INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE I OF ETHIOPIA
January 17, 2020. The Jamaican Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports, the Honorable Olivia “Babsy” Grange has agreed that the Government of Jamaica will submit a Petition to the United Nations requesting that the Coronation Day of His and Her Imperial Majesties, Emperor Haile Selassie I and Empress Menen Asfaw of Ethiopia, November 2,1930 be declared “His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I International Day.”
However, 15,000 supporting signatures must be received within a 40-day period to clear the way for the government’s submission to the United Nations. The Petition signing period is set for February 1 to March 11, 2020 at HTTPS://UNDAYFORHAILESELASSIE.ORG.
The request was made to the Minister by Ambassador to the Rastafarian Community, Bishop Ras Denroy Morgan, founder of the Abrahamic Covenant Family Ministry (the idea was his brainchild) and Bishop G. Eveta Morrison – Sista Gem Askale Mariam, International President of the Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated (“EWF, Inc.”) with whom Ras Denroy had shared his vision.
The EWF, Inc. is a membership organization ordained by His Imperial Majesty with a Constitution for the protection of the sovereignty of “We, the Black Peoples of the World” in 1937 (when Italy had invaded Ethiopia). In 1948 His Imperial Majesty also granted Land in Shashamane, Ethiopia under the administration of the organization for the Repatriation of Africa’s kidnapped children.
NGO’s, Pan African organizations, Churches, Colleges, Community Groups, Businesses and other Institutions are being invited to endorse the Petition and help spread the word. Other Governments will be invited to stand with Jamaica in presenting the Proclamation to the United Nations.
The Proclamation is based on His Imperial Majesty’s Diplomacy and Statesmanship; his defense of International Peace, Justice and Equality; his devotion to the Church, the Creator, his family, the people of Ethiopia and humanity in general; also his consistent voice for human rights for all – speaking out against the evils of the Apartheid system in South Africa and other human rights atrocities in the world. The Emperor was a founding father of the Organization of African Unity (now the AU), the League of Nations and the United Nations and helped write the Charter for all three (3) organizations. The Emperor is also revered as a Deity by members of the Rastafari faith.
This will be a momentous occasion for the African Descendant family at a time when the Family is experiencing severe inequities in this United Nations declared “International Decade for Peoples of African Descent”, with economic, social, and legal inequities; genocide, enslavement, marginalization, rampant racism and toxic anti-immigrant sentiments based on race.
“We hope that this Proclamation inspires more people to learn more about Emperor Haile Selassie the First, the Redeeming Messiah, who sits on the Throne of David and whose bloodline can be traced to Abraham who is the Father of Judaism, Christianity and Islam”, commented Bishop Morgan.
“We pray that this Petition will forge a coming together of our Black/African/Nubian/Ethiopian family across the globe – individuals, groups, organizations, schools, churches, nations, all speaking with One Voice to address and correct the inequities that affect us as a people”, Bishop Morrison stated.
